EFFECT Site: Cape Town


The Cape Town EFFECT site falls under the auspices of UCT as part of the Wellcome CIDRI-Africa Meintjes group and the Neuroscience Institute at Groote Schuur Hospital with participant consulting spaces at the CIDRI-Africa EkhayeVac research facility at Khayelitsha Site B CHC and the out patient department at Mitchells Plain District Hospital.

The site actively recruits from the Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain subdistricts with candidates occasionally referred from further afield.

The site is headed up by Prof Graeme Meintjes and Dr Kyla Comins who are site co-PIs with Dr Ric Halley-Stott and Sr Paulina Mbutuma running day to day clinical interactions with support from Dr Shaheed Mathee at Site B. Mrs Sonya Fisher and Mrs Firdaus Sayed run the site pharmacy from the Ekhayevac pharmacy.
